Moving house is often listed right near the top of the list of the most stressful life events. Buying and selling houses can be extremely challenging, but ultimately moving to a new home with your family should be a happy event. Moving to a new place is the perfect chance to make a fresh start and can be an exciting adventure, marking a new chapter in your family’s life. However, before moving day comes around, there is always so much to sort out. If you have kids, you will know only too well that they come with a lot of stuff, so planning ahead is essential for your move to run smoothly.
If you are planning to move house soon, these tips should help you to take some of the stress out of your moving day and ensure a calmer start to life in your new home:
Give Yourself a Headstart
Before you start to pack, it is a good idea to have a good clear-out at home. Going through your stuff before you start packing will ensure that you only take items you need and want to your new home. Trying to pack and sort through your things simultaneously can get a little confusing and chaotic – especially if the kids are helping out!
Setting aside all those clothes that no longer fit and toys that the kids no longer play with will give you enough time to sell them or donate them to charity before your move happens.
Make Some Space
Everyone has items in their home that they want to keep but don’t use daily—for example, seasonal items such as the Christmas tree, Christmas decorations, and garden furniture. To make life easier for yourself during the move, you may want to get these items out of the house in advance and keep them somewhere safe so that you don’t need to transport them on moving day. One excellent way to minimise the number of boxes you need to load into the van on moving day is to hire a unit at a storage facility. You can then collect these items when you have more time and have made space for them in your new home.
Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help
If you need professional help, contact JS Removals. If you have older kids, they may want to be quite hands-on with the move and help you to pack and load boxes. Younger children may be enthusiastic about helping, but it may be tricky to supervise them while busy moving boxes around and going back and forth between your old and new home. You may want to arrange for the younger kids to be looked after by a friend or relative on the day of the move to make it a calmer experience for everyone. Once the moving day is out of the way, little ones will be able to get involved in the more exciting jobs, such as making their new bedroom perfect and being reunited with their toys that had been packed away.
