How to Renovate Your Bathroom on a Budget

It’s time to redecorate and renovate your bathroom. We know, we know, it’s not that fun at all. The planning, the hard work, the renovators coming in and out of your home at all times. It gets annoying quite quickly. And what makes things worse is the second issue – being on a budget. Luckily, we have some good news for you – we know how to fix the latter! (You’re on your own for the first one).
Namely, you don’t have to spend a fortune on setting up your bathroom. With some ingenuity, a little bit of elbow grease, and some smart decisions, we can guarantee that you can make a nice improvement without ending up in debtors’ prison.

Go with Second-Hand Items

There are two elements to this topic, and they depend on why you’re renovating. If you are fixing the bathroom up because there is some kind of damage, or that it basically doesn’t work. Know that you can find perfectly fine and functional faucets on sale, used, and in total working order (for example). Now, if you are more about upgrading, or just getting nicer looking things, then things may be more difficult, but definitely not impossible. With some looking about, some investigation, and some ingenuity, you may just find what you need. Our point here is more about not giving up, and actually giving eBay and Craigslist a shot.

Rethink Your Tile Usage

One way you can really save up on your bathroom renovation is by thinking about your tiles. Namely, you don’t really need to have the entire place in tiles. Rather, keep them on high impact areas, like your floor, or shower booth walls… Basically, areas that are most likely do get damager and/or wet. You can also always go with cheaper tiles for side areas, and more expensive and durable ones for more critical ones.
Another option is using a tile here and there as an artistic accent. A good renovator, like Go Build Renovation for example, should have an eye for these things. They can advise you on how to get the most out of placing just a couple of tiles, while still protecting your bathroom and keeping it aesthetically pleasing.

A Simple Paint Job Might Be Enough

Now, if you have your eyes set to redesign your entire home, we understand you want to get every single room fixed and spruced up, including the bathroom. But, if you just want to refresh it a bit, get a little change of pace, a simple paint job can do more than enough to make things nicer. This can be a very cheap, efficient option. This is especially useful if you don’t have any mould or other issues, and just want a little change of pace.

Go Green

One way you can do this on a budget is by going green. Now, this will not save you money in the short term. However, in the long term you can expect a serious reduction for your water bill. And as an added benefit, you will be helping the environment. We suggest you get green upgrades. This means getting water-saving shower heads, efficient faucets, low flow toilets and sinks.
Another part of being green is getting used items (we talked about this already) as well as repurposed things. So, getting mason jars for your soap dispensers, getting old planks for your shelves, an old mirror right there…

renovate your bathroom

Conclusion

Renovating your bathroom on a budget is not impossible. Pinching pennies ain’t easy, but with a dab of imagination, you can expect pretty solid results. So, we suggest you go green and get some water-efficient items to save money in the long run. You don’t have to put tiles everywhere, just for specific areas that really need it. Go with second-hand stuff, and sometimes accept that a simple paint job might be all that you need.

  6. Hi,
Bathroom renovation is a costly project. Your post suggested some useful tips regarding how to minimize the bathroom renovation cost. Among these tips, I found your tile tip where you have mentioned that instead of replacing the entire tile of the bathroom, we only need to replace tiles in high-impact areas there. Reducing tiles use will drastically reduce the renovation cost.
