Sure, if you want to! Just know that there won’t be as much fat or moisture in the meatballs if you switch out. The taste and flavor should still be the same, though!
Ingredients to make Asian Meatballs:
- 24 fresh or frozen meatballs
- A ½ cup of hoisin sauce
- 2 Tbsp of rice vinegar
- 4 tsp of brown sugar
- 1 tsp of garlic powder
- 1 tsp of Sriracha
- ½ tsp of ground ginger
- Optional: Diced green onions
- Optional: Sesame seeds
How to make fresh or frozen meatballs:
Fresh Meatballs
- Prepare and fully cook the meatballs (usually 20 minutes or less in the oven). Set aside.
- In a large saucepan, combine all the remaining ingredients over medium heat – hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, garlic powder, Sriracha, and ground ginger. Once combined well and warmed, add the meatballs to the sauce and coat them well.
- Top with diced green onions and/or sesame seeds, and serve over white rice.

Frozen Meatballs
- In a large saucepan, combine all of the ingredients, leaving the meatballs for last – combine the hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, garlic powder, Sriracha, and ground ginger. Then add the meatballs to the sauce and coat them well. Place a lid over the pan and cook over medium heat for about 15 minutes. Be sure to move the meatballs around about halfway through.
- Make sure the meatballs are well coated with the sauce. Top with diced green onions and/or sesame seeds, and serve over white rice.
