  • Clean the gutters

Granted, this does not sound like fun – and it should not. But it is advisable to clean your gutters at least twice every year. So, grab a ladder, get on it, and complete your not so fun maintenance. Plus, you only need to do it twice a year, so that shouldn’t be too much trouble. Cleaning your gutters often gives you the chance to inspect your roof. Keep both eyes out for signs such as damaged, missing, or cracked shingles and gritty black residue when cleaning your gutters. These are usually signs that your roof needs to be re-shingled and may cause leakages. When indoors, inspect your ceilings for any sign of leakages or cracks.

  • Fix your faucet

Fixing leaky faucets should not be very difficult to do. Most of the time, it is only a small matter of changing or replacing the plastic washer located inside the faucet handle. All you need to do is cut off the water supply to the faucet, replace the leaking handle, and then replace the washer.

  • Squeaky doors and broken door handles

Squeaky doors can sometimes be very annoying, and a broken door handle can leave you trapped in a room or locked out of your own house. Most squeaky doors can be fixed simply by lubricating the door hinges. Most faulty door handles only need to be replaced. Fortunately, there are different kinds of good quality ironmongery door furniture available to choose from if your door handle or hinges need replacing.

  • Don’t flush your money down the toilet

One of the things that can easily cause your water bill to sky-rocket is a leaking toilet. Therefore, you need to check regularly to ensure there is no continuous flow of water into your toilet bowl from the water tank. You can do this by adding just a little bit of food colouring into the water in the tank and checking back after, say, an hour to see if the coloured water has reached inside the toilet bowl before you flush the toilet. If it has, then your tank is leaking water. Also, check around the base of the toilet bowl on the floor. If there is leakage there too, then your bowl needs replacing.

  • Replace your air conditioner filter

It is recommended to replace your HVAC filter every six months, or at least every 30 to 60 days if you own pets or live with someone that has allergies. Replacing your HVAC filters ensure that the system’s strain is reduced, and your indoor air is kept healthy and clean.

Do regular check-ups around the house to quickly fix things before they turn into big problems.
