Another common mistake that I see regularly as an appliance repair technician is people who are not aware that some components of their appliance are still under warranty.
Of course, this can depand on the brand, model, date of purchase, but as an exemple some appliances have a 5 years warranty on all electronics components of the unit, even if the typical warranty is 1 year.
Such longer warranties included with the purchase can include longer parts and labour warranty period for the sealed system of a refrigerator, a parts only warranty covering all electric elements of a cooktop or stove, etc.
The complete terms for such warranties are often hidden in the user manual of the appliance, and it’s often the customer’s job to mention them, as neither the store or the manufacturer will likely honor them if you don’t ask.
Also, in case you live in an older house, make sure all staircases and doorways are wide and high enough to enter your appliances. In some tighter spaces, the delivery company might have to remove the doors of a refrigerator, or even the handrail of your stairs in order to get everything inside, which is of course subject to extra fees or delays.
