Not checking the price carefully

Kitchen appliances are not cheap. The average washing machine and fridge freezer will set you back a couple of hundred pounds. Therefore, you need to make sure you are clued up on the cost before making a decision. You need to decide if you can afford to pay for the item straight away. Some stores do a deal where you can pay in monthly instalments for the item. Or you might want to get a home improvement loan so that you can purchase the item. Whatever you decide, make sure the item is worth the amount you are paying. If it’s not, you need to look for a better functional item which is worth the money!

Not checking the delivery

It’s also important that you check how the new kitchen appliances will get to your home. You don’t want to end up buying something from a company that doesn’t deliver to your home. Therefore, check with the store to see if they can send it to your home and the charge for doing this. If you are outside of their delivery area, you could contact a company who will fetch it and deliver it to you. You can look on sites such as www.shiply.com for quotes for delivery, and they can take the old kitchen appliance as well which saves you a job.

Not checking the guarantee

A lot of people forget to check about the guarantee, and if they run into problems, they end up not being covered. Therefore, ask in the shop how long the guarantee is for and how you contact them about it if something goes wrong. It will ensure you are covered if something does happen and you need it replaced ASAP. A lot of companies at an extra charge can extend the cover, so that you don’t have to worry for several years if issues do occur.

Not reading reviews online first

It’s so important that you check the reviews first about the kitchen appliance before you decide to make a purchase. After all, it might look great in the shop, but it might not be right when you get it home. Therefore, read the reviews online to see if it’s been working efficiently in people’s homes. Then you know you are making a good decision that you won’t regret later.

Not checking all the features available

You need to ask the shop assistant about what the appliance’s best features are. A lot of people don’t know and then aren’t using the feature to its maximum potential. Therefore, read the fine details and make sure you know exactly what it does. You may find there are better ones available which will suit your family’s needs! Therefore, check out its special features and capacity before making a decision.

  1. Checking the delivery is absolutely true! I’ve bought a couple of big appliances in the past which I had to pay a large delivery fee for because I didn’t check if the store delivered in my area or if they offered the service at all!

  2. Great tips indeed! We often make these mistakes like not checking the reviews online before purchasing the gadgets we like. Everyone should pay attention to them lest they should make the same mistakes again.

  3. Another common mistake that I see regularly as an appliance repair technician is people who are not aware that some components of their appliance are still under warranty.

Of course, this can depand on the brand, model, date of purchase, but as an exemple some appliances have a 5 years warranty on all electronics components of the unit, even if the typical warranty is 1 year.

Such longer warranties included with the purchase can include longer parts and labour warranty period for the sealed system of a refrigerator, a parts only warranty covering all electric elements of a cooktop or stove, etc.

The complete terms for such warranties are often hidden in the user manual of the appliance, and it’s often the customer’s job to mention them, as neither the store or the manufacturer will likely honor them if you don’t ask.

Also, in case you live in an older house, make sure all staircases and doorways are wide and high enough to enter your appliances. In some tighter spaces, the delivery company might have to remove the doors of a refrigerator, or even the handrail of your stairs in order to get everything inside, which is of course subject to extra fees or delays.

Overall great post and I’ll be back soon for more!

  5. It’s also important to check for the reliability reviews and reputation of the brand.

Even if the new and shiny can be attractive, especially for a good price, keep in mind that some of these “features” are just gadgets that might fail sooner rather than later.

But a well built unit by a reputable manufacturer might last you more than 10 years without any issue.
