End-of-the-year festivities make people more optimistic. This year, like every year, we’ll come up with resolutions, and then after a few months, most promises will fall off the grid. Let’s try something different by turning those typical resolutions into something I’m sure will benefit you and your family.
OPT OUTSIDE
We all probably spend a little too much time in front of screens. Phones, TVs, computers, all get a pretty big chunk of our attention. So for the new year, it might be a good idea to take a break from technology and work out more ways to spend time outside.
CULTIVATING A BONDING AREA AT HOME
Brits spend the majority of their days indoors. To be exact, we spend 92% of all our time indoors according to research conducted by Ribble Cycles. While this figure may be a bit shocking, it’s not too late to focus on linking our homes to nature. A great way to do so is by adding a garden area or, if you already have one, investing in making it even more inviting. A little time and effort can go a long way toward harvesting much more than some colourful flowers or aromatic herbs. If you need a hand, be sure to contact a local gardener who can help turn this idea into a reality.
PLAN A GETAWAY AS A WAY TO NURTURE YOUR RELATIONSHIP
From the youngest to the oldest, people need things to look forward to throughout the year, so why not plan a special holiday with your family early on to get them thinking about that experience. A getaway from the mundane routine of life is a fantastic way to cultivate bonds between the family. Being away also means everyone can disconnect from technology because being with your nearest and dearest means you don’t need your phones to keep in touch. You can give each other your undivided attention and use the time to get out and about and teach your kids about other cultures, geography, and if they’re feeling adventurous, the local cuisine.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Outdoor activities are a great way to bond with your kids and make those fond memories. Sports and other activities, like cycling and hiking, can also help you stay in shape and witness the progress you make over time. It will ultimately be as rewarding for them as it is to you. Plus, If your children feel the support, they’ll most likely want to continue with the interest over time, establishing good habits for the future.
Make 2019 the year that you opt outside and choose to do less with your phones and more with each other. Get a quote for garden services, plan that holiday, and sign up for an outdoor activity. Your kids will thank you down the line, and you’ll be happy you chose nature over apps.
